Socks! Shawls! Kits and More!
Welcome to the world of Grounded, the first book in The Seven series.
Rosie, the main character in the new Young Adult novel Grounded is psychic and a knitter—a pretty good one—and so we’ve decided to celebrate the season by bringing you a set of sock patterns based on the main characters in the book—all seven of them. (Not to mention Grounded Sock Puppet Theater!)
Who are we?
- Heather Ordover—Author of Grounded, editor of the What Would Madame Defarge Knit? series of knit (and crochet) pattern books, and knitwear designer;
- Meg Warren—Knitwear designer and dyer at The March Hare;
- Riin Gill—Head dyer at Happy Fuzzy Yarn.
Together we’ve collected The Seven patterns (plus a bonus sock) in individual and eBook formats as well as kits of yarn + individual patterns.
But that’s not all. Once you’ve read the book you may feel inspired to create your own patterns! If so, please feel free to share your genius on our shawl page here. You are more than welcome to link to your online shop or Rav page if you like, too. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

|Rosie’s Firestarter socks are easy-to knit because there’s only little panel of something other than stockinette and that runs down the outside of the sock (making a distinct right and a left sock). But because Rosie hates to be bored there’s also a Welsh heel (like the WWMDfK? Fosco socks) and a fitted arch.
Thus, these suckers FIT.
They hug your foot nicely and the leg bit is easily extendable for you to make it as long as you need. Want to add calf shaping if you decide to go long?It’s easy to do because the back of the leg is pure stockinette. (Andi’s book Big Foot Knits would help with planning for that). The yarn comes from Riin Gill of Happy Fuzzy Yarn in her Sugar Maple colorway.
|Or if you’d like to get ALL of the Grounded socks as they’re released, you can get the eBook which currently includes Rosie’s Firestarters, Izzy’s Bouncin’ Blues, Jenn’s Subtle Majicks, Jasmine’s Ethereal Socks, and Justin’s Stubborn Socks.
You will receive an email as it is updated every 2–3 weeks with a new sock pattern until you have all 8!
